Honda CR-V 2020 EX-L AWD
November 11, 2019
If you're looking for a small family crossover, the 2020 Honda CR-V is worth considering. The CR-V impresses with its flawless roundness. Fuel economy, performance, safety, quality and cost are the main benefits, while Honda's impeccable reputation for reliability cannot be ignored. For 2020, the CR-V will also receive a new hybrid powertrain that combines fuel economy and performance.
The CR-V is getting its first major update since it was completely overhauled in 2017. The base LX now comes standard with the 1.5-liter turbo, previously standard on all other trims - the previous base 2.4-liter is no longer. More powertrain news comes from the new 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, which will arrive later in the model year.
The base LX now also gets standard accident prevention technology, while the Touring gets a heated steering wheel and wireless smartphone charging. Each CR-V also gets redesigned styling, including a tinted grille and dark-tinted taillights. Inside, the center console has been redesigned to offer e Honda CR-V 2020 EX-L AWD ven more flexible storage.
The CR-V delivers a stylish, albeit boring design aesthetic backed by above average materials and build construction for this segment. If you are a previous owner of a CR-V, you will notice that this latest version is of higher quality and more premium environment than previous models. If you don't, you will still find one of the nicest booths in terms of quality, as well as one of the most functional as it has a number of clever storage solutions in the center console.
On the EX trim level, the CR-V comes standard with an abundance of technology at a reasonable price, making the base LX trim a bit controversial. You get three USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a host of other smartphone integration apps, and a six-speaker sound system. They can be controlled via a 7-inch touchscreen, which is not the CR-V's strongest element due to questionable responses, lack of physical menu buttons, and sometimes confusing menu structures. Competing systems, especially the Subaru Forester, offer comparable features with a more user-friendly interface.
The 2020 CR-V is one of the biggest "compact SUVs" out there, at least on the inside, as Honda tends to do a better job at a job than making the most of its interior space. While its overall exterior length and width is average for the segment, its passenger and cargo space is better than nearly every competitor. The 60/40 split reclining rear seat provides genuine space and comfort even for large adults, while the rear-facing car seat should be able to fit in the middle position - even with tall passengers in the front. The headroom is plentiful, regardless of seating position or the presence of a sunroof.
Behind that rear seat is a large and versatile cargo bay (37.6 to 39.2 cubic feet) with one of the lowest, most easily loaded cargo floors in the segment. This is good news if you are lifting a large, heavy stroller or if your dog has to jump aboard. Folding the rear seat down using two spacer links in the luggage compartment reveals a maximum capacity of 75.8 cubic feet. That's better than most midsize SUVs like the Ford Edge and better than almost all other compact SUVs. Only the Subaru Forester without the sunroof is slightly larger.
Every 2020 Honda CR-V comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four that produces 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission and standard front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is optional. Acceleration and fuel economy are among the best in the segment. EPA estimates are 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined with FWD, and 27 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined with AWD.

Today's CR-V wheels are more refined and sophisticated than previous versions. It is more comfortable, less wind and road noise, and the low turbo power results in quieter and less stressful city driving noises. These observations generally apply to most of the competition, and indeed the CR-V is one of the best compact crossovers to drive.
In general, this is because the CR-V is well rounded. Its steering is nicely weighted and provides ample confidence, but doesn't make parking a chore. Its handling is certainly not the most responsive or road hug in the segment, but it instills confidence without being distracted from a comfortable ride. As far as the engine is concerned, this low-revving power from a turbocharged engine makes the CR-V fe
